Kia Skrine Jeffers
We See You, Sis was created to help destigmatize depression and demonstrate the fortitude and resilience of African American women with the condition.
To develop the play, Kia Skrine Jeffers, PhD, RN, PHN partnered with the UCLA Center for Health Services & Society, Healthy African American Families II, and 6 African American women in South Los Angeles who shared the highs and lows of living with depression, seeking help, and navigating everyday life. Together, the team has worked to provide a creative work that can provoke conversations around mental health among African American women, self-management and healing, and opportunities to get help within and outside of the clinical setting.
Funding for this project was provided by the California Arts Council.
