Description: 

Two-year postdoctoral fellowship (start July-August, 2022) in research and evaluation of program quality improvement, for a UCLA/VA shared center that focuses on innovations in improving care for Veterans with behavioral health concerns who have experienced or are at risk for homelessness. The postdoc will assist with data collection, cleaning, and potentially analyses of data sets at the VA as well as other data sets such as county or UCLA health system, relevant to services for Veterans. The postdoc must be able to obtain a without salary compensation (WOC) appointment at the VA, transport and participate in activities between UCLA and the VA, and maintain required training and certifications to operate across systems. The postdoc will be a main support/collaborator for junior investigator pilots (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and a main coordinator for quality improvement and other projects developed in collaboration with homeless Veteran stakeholders and UCLA and VA investigators. The Postdoc will interact regularly with junior and senior investigators in mental health, addiction and health services research concerning Veterans and homelessness. There will be ample opportunity to collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows at UCLA and the VA and to initiate pilot projects related to Veteran homelessness and behavioral health issues. The postdoc may also be involved in helping coordinating IRB proposals, in collaboration with the Center research coordinator. The postdoc will be mentored by senior investigators at UCLA and the VA, including the research co-directors of the COE. The COE and postdoc position are funded through the UCLA Chancellor’s Office of Veteran Affairs.

Requirements: 

  • Doctoral degree in psychology, medicine, public health, or social sciences;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative research environment;
  • Strong quantitative analysis/data management skills;
  • Willing to have a VA WOS appointment and work at UCLA and the VA.

Description:

Two-year post-doctoral nursing fellowship (starting Jan 2024 or later) in research and evaluation of program quality improvement, for a UCLA/VA shared center that focuses on innovations in improving care for Veterans with behavioral health concerns who have experienced or are at risk for homelessness. The postdoc will assist with data collection, cleaning, and potentially analyses of data sets at the VA as well as other data sets such as county or UCLA health system, relevant to services for Veterans experiencing homelessness and behavioral health concerns.  The experience also engages and enables the post doc to learn how to inform policy and advocate for improving health for the vulnerable veterans. The postdoc will be hired with salary paid through UCLA, and must be able to obtain a without salary compensation (WOC) appointment at the VA. They will transport and participate in activities between UCLA and the VA and maintain required training and certifications to operate across systems.  The postdoc will be a main support/collaborator for junior investigator pilots (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and a main coordinator for quality improvement and other projects developed in collaboration with homeless Veteran advisors and UCLA and VA investigators. The Postdoc will interact regularly with junior and senior investigators in mental health, addiction and health services research concerning Veterans and homelessness. There will be ample opportunity to collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows, across disciplines, at VA and UCLA and to initiate pilot projects related to Veteran homelessness and behavioral health issues. The postdoc may also be involved in helping coordinating IRB proposals, in collaboration with the Center research coordinator. The postdoc will be mentored by senior investigators at UCLA and the VA, including research co-directors of the COE, and have access to faculty (such as Kristen Choi PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAAN), in UCLA School of Nursing affiliated projects, relevant course work and postdoctoral training programs, such as the National Clinician Scholars Program.  The COE and postdoc position are funded through the UCLA Chancellor’s Office of Veterans Initiatives & Partnerships, Anthony DeFrancesco, Chief Liaison and Executive Director.    

Requirements:

Doctoral degree (PhD) in nursing;

Excellent writing and communication skills;

Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment;

Strong quantitative analysis/data management skills;

Willing to have a VA WOC appointment and work at VA and UCLA (and affiliated organizations).
