Chantal Figueroa earned her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota Twin in Comparative and International Development Education. Her dissertation entitled, “State of Terror, States of Mind: mental health care in Guatemala City” compares the experiences of women diagnosed with a mental illness with women living in environments of extreme violence in order to understand the constructions of mental health in post-conflict Guatemala City. Currently, she is supporting the qualitative research evaluation of partnership building efforts for health equity in LA County.
